Shareware Studio Volume II CD-ROM Installation for RBBS-PC v17.4
Copyright 1993 by Gary Glueckert
Program Description
───────────────────
This program installs The Shareware Studio Volume II CD-ROM Disc for use with
RBBS v17.4 Bulletin Board Software. The Shareware Studio adds 640 Megabytes of
shareware files to your BBS. This is done by adding a seperately configurable
Subboard to your current RBBS installation and having the CD ROM Disc serve as
the download drive for that Subboard. Why a seperate Subboard? You could add
the CD ROM onto your existing File Management System but this would make
upgrading to a newer CD much more difficult.
Requirements
────────────
Assumptions are made that you already have an RBBS installation up and running
with little or no problems and that you also have a CD-ROM drive installed and
working on your PC based system. You should also have purchased a Shareware
Studio Volume II CD-ROM (if not see ORDER.CD included in this archive).
In addition to the above assumptions you will also need:
- RBBS-PC's CONFIG.EXE - to setup your subboard
- QSORT (4.04 or later) - to sort your FMS dir
- MAKEFFS.EXE and MAKETABS.EXE - to install a FFS system for the CD
QSORT is commonly found on most Bulletin Board Systems. MAKEFFS and MAKETABS
comes with the RBBS 17.4 distribution files.
Implementation
──────────────
Create a directory for SWS2RBBS.ZIP and unzip it's contents into that
directory. Change to that directory (if not already there) and type in
SWS2RBBS. Answer all of the prompts (or take the defaults). SWS2RBBS will
create many of the files needed to run Shareware Studio Vol. II with RBBS
as outlined below:
Your Master directory
Your file of valid category codes
Your directory of directories (directory menu)
Your configuration file for MAKEFFS and MAKETABS
Your FIDX and LIDX files to use with the Fast File Search
Your next step is to create a Subboard as outlined in the RBBS-PC documentation
and set the following parameters in the configuration definition file for the
Subboard using CONFIG.EXE -
Parameter: "
204 - RBBS Download Drives. Add the drive letter of your CD ROM drive.
211 - Set Name (prefix) of Dir. of dir.
214 - Set Name (prefix) of the new Master files list.
217 - Set Name of file containing list of valid categories.
219 - Set length of file description to 46. This is an absolute value!
267 - Set sorted filelist name (FIDX)
268 - Set Locator file name (LIDX)
The files, SWS2.DIR (created for you) and SWS2.IMC (included) are used to
prevent duplicate uploads from other Subboards on your system. SWS2.DIR is a
list of files (in DOS' bare dir format) that are contained on the CD-ROM. This
filename should be placed at the end of your regular configuration file for
MAKEFFS (used in your main conference and other subboards).
Eg /FileDir=SWS2.DIR
This will invoke the macro SWS2.IMC which will tell the user on an upload
that the file already exists on the CD-ROM, or on a download will tell the user
that they must join the CD-ROM subboard first to d/l the file. Make sure you
edit SWS2.IMC so that the directory and the names listed in that file are
correct.
Additional Notes
────────────────
This program does a very basic install for your Shareware Studio CD-ROM. Be
sure to run CONFIG.EXE against your new Subboards configuration file to adjust
all of the parameters to your liking.
